NEW BEDFORD, MA — Run For Office (RFO), an initiative of NationBuilder, and VOTE New Bedford announce their partnership today to better implement and deploy civic education resources for voter engagement, as well as candidate support programs.
The synergy between RFO’s access to political office information and processes and voter information via NationBuilder, with VOTE New Bedford’s volunteer and resource development and distribution capacity, will allow community outreach to begin informing residents about the importance and collateral impact of civic engagement, without influencing their personal views. It will allow for more education and personal participation surrounding each level of government.
Sorcha Rochford, Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships at NationBuilder says, “We need a wave of new faces and voices entering the political arena to continue to grow so that more elected officials will look like the communities that they serve, and anyone can choose to run, and win.”
Run For Office states, “[it] provides critical, free information on what you can run for, how to get on the ballot, and when you need to file for office, in the first-ever database of its kind–a directory of all candidacy information and races, including down-ballot local municipalities, school boards and special elections. RFO currently hosts all federal, state executive, state legislative, county, and school board positions in the United States—approximately 145,000 positions. We built the database to be searchable by address, so anyone, anywhere can access information on the offices available to run for with just their zip code.”
In a time when activism and advocacy is growing, and reaching people at varying levels of governmental knowledge it’s important to add comprehensive programs that explain the process of government to pair with their perspective of what they want to see happen in government, either as a candidate or voter.
