VOTE FROM HOME NEW BEDFORD

You can vote by mail in Massachusetts, but only if you request it.

Massachusetts will hold its state primary election on Sep. 1st. If you would prefer to vote-by-mail, you must submit an absentee ballot application by Aug. 31st, excuse required.

The absentee ballot by-mail application period opens every January 1st. You may request to receive ballots for multiple elections during the calendar year, though an excuse is required.

**NOTE: As election rules change daily due to COVID-19, make sure to check back here and with your state frequently.**

EXCUSE NEEDED TO VOTE ABSENTEE

You need an excuse to request an absentee ballot. Excuses could include being sick or out of town. Because of a newly passed law you qualify for an absentee ballot due to physical disability if:
  • You are ill
  • You are confined to your home because you may transmit infection
  • You cannnot leave your home because you are a member of a population vilnerable to illness
  • You are staying in your home or avoiding your polling place as a precautionary measure in response to COVID-19
Do you believe everyone in MA should be able to vote safely and eliminate  excuses? Sign Our Petition for Change encouraging Massachusetts to offer no excuse Vote-By-Mail.

PERMANENT ABSENTEE

Massachusetts doesn’t have permanent absentee as an option for everyone. Instead, you can request a ballot by mail every year.

Massachusetts does however allow for permanent absentee status for elderly or disabled voters.
